List Update - Morrissey, Lucinda Williams & More!

Making this post a couple days later than I would have liked, but I have kept the list pretty well updated. Additions to this week's update include Morrissey at the Palladium, Lucinda Williams at the House of Blues, Devotchka at the Pontiac Garage, Dave Matthews Band at Superpages (with The Avett Brothers opening) and Denis Leary at Nokia. But, of course, lots more (and ticket info) on the full list, so see for yourself!

We're Back!

So, I was trying to update the site over Thanksgiving on my parents' shitty computer and something happened to the formatting of the main list and completely fucked it up. Whole days of events were missing and I had to completely un-format the entire list. Which wiped out all of the hyperlinks to tickets, etc. In any event, it took me a while to get it back to "working order" and it took me even longer to even think about undertaking that task so the blog just kinda sat there for a couple weeks.

I've also used this overhaul as a chance to add both comedy shows and "tribute" acts to the list - two genres which I had previously ignored.

That being said, we're back up and running with an assload of updates. The only caveat is that a lot of the ticket links are still missing so I will be adding those back over time. So bear with me. In the meantime, here are some of the highlights while I was gone:
All right kids, go see some shows.

List Update - November 16, 2008

OK. It's been forever, but the list is finally updated. Sorry you guys. So many notable shows added that would have merited their own posts, but alas.... here we are. Let's get right to the highlights:

The Killers Coming to Nokia

OK, so I will have a list update coming later today (I hope), but I wanted to make one special update first. Per Consequence of Sound, The Killers have announced a new round of US dates to support their upcoming album Day & Age, including a stop at Nokia Theatre at Grand Prairie on Wednesday, February 4. No word on an exact on sale date or ticket prices yet, but other shows are going on sale as early as this weekend so heads up.

Update: Tickets are $39.50-$42.50 and are available through Ticketmaster beginning this Saturday. There is also a pre-sale this Friday at 10 AM.

List Update - October 14, 2008

OK, I'm officially going to stop calling them "weekly" updates - that was clearly a pipe dream. Regardless, the list is updated as of this morning. The highlights:
And lots of others on the full list.

Weekly Update #8

Update is overdue, but still not much to report. Nevertheless, here are the "highlights":

See? Nothing all that exciting. Anyways, all updates are on the main list.....

Edgefest 18: "Edgier" than Ever!

The lineup for "Edgefest 18" Presented by 102.1 FM "The Edge" came out today, and has a few notable bands. Recall that there was actually another Edgefest earlier this year (you guessed it - Edgefest 17) which had exactly zero notable bands. In any event, v18.0 - taking place at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco on October 25 - will feature the reuinted Stone Temple Pilots (remember that Scott Weiland will be playing a solo gig at the Granada just a month later), The Offspring, Staind, the reunited Toadies and some others. OK, maybe it's not that great of a lineup, but it would be for some. Tickets are $69.50 and go onsale Saturday (pre-sale starting today for "Edgeheads"!!!!).

Weekly Update #7

Wow, way too long since I've posted an update. I've been updating the list all the while though. In any event, here are some of the new shows since my last update:

And more of course in the full list. Enjoy.

Weekly Update #6

I actually updated the list Monday evening (with a few more tweaks yesterday) but it took until today for my lazy ass to make this post. Anywho, here are the highlights:

That's about it. Check the full list for more.

Nokia: Ryan Adams & The Cardinals

Lots of special posts for Nokia lately. Today it is Ryan Adams & The Cardinals, billed as just The Cardinals on Ticketmaster. Mr. Adams is notoriously hit or miss with the performance he gives, but the last time he played Dallas was in October at SMU and absolutely killed. One of the best shows of last year for me, and this one will not be missed. Tickets are $25-$35 and go onsale this Friday, August 22, with an internet presale Thursday AM.

R.E.M. at Nokia

Wow, this is a pretty big one off show announcement for Dallas. Well, I'm sure the rest of the tour dates will follow but still. Per R.E.M.'s website:

R.E.M. has added a show at the Nokia Theatre in Dallas to their current world tour in support of ACCELERATE. The show will take place on October 24th and will include support from Dallas band Old 97s. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, August 22nd. Fan Club and Online Fan Community sales will take place on Monday and Tuesday (August 18th and 19th) next week.
The Ticketmaster page is already up. I saw R.E.M. at both Sasquatch! and at Madison Square Garden this year and both were great shows. This is a great add to the list. And I am really surprised (and pleased) it's not at the AAC.

What Time Is It?!?!

The return of The Time! Well, at least I think so....

Morris Day & The Time are playing at Nokia on Saturday, September 13. But there is good reason to believe that this isn't your average state fair or has-been nightclub rehashing of the Time hits that Morris has been playing with a bunch of no-names over the last decade or so. Based upon (1) the recent reunion of the original members at the Grammys (with Rihanna of all people), at Coachella (with Prince, natch), and at a month-long run in Vegas, and (2) the price of the tickets ($39.50-$59.50), I think we can assume that this show will include Jerome Benton, Jellybean Johnson, Jimmy Jam, Monte Moir et al. No official word yet however. Tickets on sale tomorrow at 10 AM.

Weekly Update #4

Okay, time for more weekly goodness. The list has been updated as per usual. On to the highlights:

And of course all of the other announcements the last couple of days. Enjoy!

Kings of Leon at Palladium!

Nice! Kings of Leon will be celebrating their newly released album Only by the Night (out September 23) by playing the Palladium Ballroom on Wednesday, October 29. Tickets are $30 and go on sale September 12 at 10 AM. Openers are We Are Scientists and The Stills. That is going to be a busy week for music.

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

Weezer at Nokia Theatre

Just announced today: Weezer is playing at Nokia in Grand Prairie on Tuesday, October 21. They actually announced the stops in a rather clever manner (although not as clever as Tom Waits tour announcement a few months back), but several sites are carrying the full itinerary. No word on ticket info yet. Opening the show will be Tokyo Police Club and Angels and Airwaves.

While I Was Out: Ben Folds, Ray LaMontagne & More!

Ah, back from Lolla and a ton of Dallas concert news to catch up on. While I am updating the calendar, let me hit a few of the highlights:

Well, first a lowlight: Emmylou Harris' concert at the Majestic is cancelled tonight due to a death in the family. No word on whether these will be rescheduled. Refunds at point of purchase.

In other Majestic news, Ray LaMontagne is playing on Friday, October 24 (tickets are $27.50 to $33 and go on sale Friday at 10 AM, with an internet presale going on now).

Also, Cheech & Chong are reuiniting for their first tour in 25 years and are hitting the Majestic Saturday, November 1. Tickets range from $40 to $60 and go on sale Friday at 10 AM, but there is a presale through musictoday tomorrow and on Ticketmaster Thursday. Usually I just stick to music shows and not comedy but they did do "Basketball Jones" and a bunch of other songs so I'm counting it.

Piano man Ben Folds is coming to the Palladium Ballroom on Thursday, October 23. Tix are $32 and go on sale Friday at 10 AM.

Los Lonely Boys and Alejandro Escovedo are playing at the House of Blues on Halloween. Tickets are $27.50 for general admission and up to $75 for reserved and go on sale Friday at 10 AM (with presales starting tomorrow).

Let's see, according to Pollstar, a Glenn Danzig-less "Misfits" will be reappearing at the Granada on Wednesday, November 26. No ticket info on that one yet. But you are probably better off seeing Danzig at the Palladium on October 30 (Halloween Eve!!) anyway.

Lastly but not leastly, tickets for the previously announced TV on the Radio show at the Lakewood Theater go on sale Saturday at 11 AM.

Hoping to have a full list update tonight.

Lakewood 70th Anniversary: TV on the Radio

Really big show announcement today. The Lakewood Theater will be having a 70th anniversary show on Tuesday, October 28 featuring TV on the Radio with special guests The Dirtbombs. This promises to be a fantastic show. So far no word on on sale info or ticket prices but I'll keep you posted.

Thanks to hansford for the find.

ACL Spillover: The List

As I mentioned the other day, there are lots of bands that stop by the DFW area on their way to and from Austin City Limits. For those that can't make the fest for whatever reason, this results in a plethora of pinatas.... I mean, shows to catch for those two weeks. So, here's a list of all of the ACL acts playing in Dallas that weekend (so far):

9/25 (Thu)
Hot Chip – Palladium Ballroom
Del tha Funkee Homosapien - Granada Theater
Drive-By Truckers, Shooter Jennings - House of Blues
Spiritualized - Lakewood Theater

9/26 (Fri)
Joe Bonamassa, Back Door Slam - House of Blues
The Black Keys - Granada Theater
Colour Revolt, Sybris - Hailey's Club
City and Colour - Pontiac Garage

9/27 (Sat)
Neko Case - Granada Theater
Against Me! - Ridglea Theater

9/28 (Sun)
The Fratellis - House of Blues

9/29 (Mon)
The Swell Season, Iron & Wine - Palladium Ballroom

No doubt more artists will get added in the coming weeks and months. Hopefully David Byrne. :)

ACL Spillover: Against Me!, Amos Lee

Adding to the number of bands that will stop by Dallas on their way to/from the Austin City Limits Music Festival (Sept. 26-28), Against Me! will be playing at the Ridglea Theater in Fort Worth on Saturday, Sept. 27. No ticket info just yet on that one.

Additionally, already on the schedule but tickets go on sale Saturday at 10 AM for Amos Lee's show at the Granada Theater on Saturday, Sept. 20.

When I get around to it, I will make a post listing all of the ACL bands that are playing in Dallas before/during/after the fest. If it ends up being like last year, it'll make for a great couple of weeks of music in the area (but with conflicts a plenty!).

EDIT: This post gave the impression (intentionally) that Amos Lee was playing ACL this year. He's not. I thought he was. Oops. Against Me! is though.

Granada: Mountain Goats/Kaki King

This one has been on the list for a while (thanks Pollstar!) but it's just been officially announced by the band and the venue. John Darnielle's band The Mountain Goats and guitar virtuoso Kaki King will be at the Granada on Sunday, November 2. Tickets are $12 for GA and $16 for seats and are on sale now.

HOB: Ben Kweller, Hives/EoDM on sale

Hometown boy and local fave Ben Kweller will stop by the Pontiac Garage at the House of Blues on Thursday, September 25. This is right before ACL so I wonder if he will end up playing there. No word on price or onsale info yet.

Also, the previously announced Hives and Eagles of Death Metal double bill is currently on pre-sale on Ticketmaster. General onsale starts Saturday at 10 AM. Tickets are $25 for general admission and $35-$50 for the balcony.

Weekly Update #2

Even though I regularly update the main list, I will try to make a post once a week telling you guys it's updated and perhaps highlighting notable shows. This is said update for this week. New shows of note:

See the full list for all updates.

HOB: Eagles of Death Metal/The Hives

Now here are some Eagles I can get into.....

According to Spin, the Eagles of Death Metal and The Hives will be co-headlining a show at the House of Blues on Wednesday, September 17. This will be part of a short run the bands are doing together. Also, Spin reports that EoDM will have a new album - entitled Heart-On - out on October 21. No word yet on ticket info.

I'll definitely try to make this show - The Hives were one of my favorite sets at Sasquatch! and I'm dying to see them in a club setting. I know that traditionally Josh Homme doesn't tour with EoDM, so I wonder if this tour will be any different (although, Queens of the Stone Age don't appear to be busy this Fall from a live perspective, so who knows.....)

Also, I have list update coming tonight so stay tuned for more announcements.

Don Henley Must Die

Mojo Nixon sang it best. Everyone that knows me knows how much I hate the Eagles. In fact, I think at this point the Eagles themselves must know, because sure enough after I moaned and groaned about them coming to Dallas on my birthday weekend, they up and added a second show the next night!!!! So now we will be treated to a double helping of America's worst band on Saturday, September 13 and Sunday, September 14 at the AAC. Tickets are obviously overpriced from $45 to $175 for each show. The presale for Sunday's show starts Monday yadda yadda.... The Eagles suck.

Seriously, they must have heard that I planned my trip to DC to leave that Friday and come back that Sunday night (to celebrate my birthday and see Paul Weller at the 9:30 Club to boot) which allowed me to completely avoid their trip, and decided to add a Sunday show just to spite me.

Rubber Gloves: Jonathan Richman, Magnolia Electric Co. shows added

Rubber Gloves in Denton added a couple of big shows today. First up is Jonathan Richman (of Modern Lovers and There's Something About Mary fame) who is playing a "semi-early" show (read: doors at 8, show at 9) on Thursday, October 2. Tickets are $12.

Additionally, Magnolia Electric Co. will be playing on Monday, October 27 with openers Everest and Tre Orsi. Tickets are $10.

Update #1

The master list has been updated. All of the items in red reflect additions or changes made to the last version of the list on the ACL board.

Monday, July 14, 2008

Welcome!

Welcome to the new DFW concert list/blog. Well, the list isn't new but the blog part is. I started the list on a thread of the Austin City Limits message board, but after keeping up with it there for almost a year I figured that starting a blog would be the best way for me to keep track of the list and make updates in the manner I wanted to. So here it is.

This is, and will continue to be, a work in progress - both in terms of the contents of list itself and of the format of the blog. My main goal is to keep it simple - mainly just want to list the shows, announce notable ones and make at least weekly updates. I won't be doing reviews or any other shite that I don't have time for. I am going to try to provide links for purchasing tickets online where possible.... I am in the process of hotlinking all the current shows right now.

In any event, I hope that you find the list to be as useful as it is for me to make it (trust me, it's very therapeutic).
