Rumor: Leonard Cohen at Nokia?

Here is an interesting one if it pans out. Singer-songwriter legend Leonard Cohen recently announced his first U.S. tour date in forever (February 19 at the Beacon Theatre in New York), and it is strongly rumored all over the net that he will begin his American tour in Austin at The Long Center on April 2, 2009. Being a decently big Cohen fan myself and noting the rarity of the event, my curiosity was piqued as to whether he would also play a Dallas show. After a few clever Google searches, I found the official site for Grand Prairie and the Event Calendar shows an April 3 listing for Cohen at Nokia Theatre. This certainly jibes with the Austin date, making both seemingly likely. I will post more when I know it.

Note: The Grand Praire calendar also shows a May 5 date for Flight of the Conchords at Nokia, which hasn't been officially announced either. This would also be a great show for Dallas to get.

Friday's Broken Social Scene Concert at HOB is Canceled

Just in - per the House of Blues website and their own website, tomorrow night's Broken Social Scene concert (with Lymbyc Systym) is canceled. Here is the post from their website:
Unfortunately we have had to cancel our show tomorrow night at the House of Blues in Dallas due to illness. We apologize to all of our fans who bought tickets and will be posting information on refunds or rescheduled dates very soon. The remainder of our dates will continue as planned starting in Austin this Saturday.
I really hope they reschedule the show, but I doubt it. I actually won tickets to this last week. Dag.

Early AM List Update

Wanted to finish this up before bed. I'm tired and there's lots to report so let's get right to it. Main list is updated and here are the highlights:
*Oh wait, I guess that's Los Locos.
** The Animal Collective show will be a pretty hot ticket is my guess. Tickets go on sale Friday. Probably should get them sooner rather than later.

We finally have some details on the previously-announced Dallas Morrissey show. The former lead singer of The Smiths will be coming to the Palladium Ballroom on Friday, April 10 in support of his new album, Years of Refusal (out February 17 in the US) - which, by the way, is a candidate for album cover of the year (see below). Back to the relevant info: Thursday, January 22, there is a presale allowing you to buy the album from iTunes and get tickets to the show a day early. Otherwise, the general on sale starts Friday, January 23 through Ticketmaster. All tickets are general admission and are $39.50.

Bastards, Bastards, Bastards!

Music fans all over the DFW area wanting to see Cincinnati's Heartless Bastards in the next few months are in luck. You will have not one, not two - but three! - chances to see them coming up... in the city of your choice to boot! On Friday, February 27, the new Longhorn Saloon in the Ft. Worth Stockyards will see the Bastards with opener Dove Hunter. Tickets are $10 and are available in advance through Frontgate. The next night, Saturday, February 28, Hailey's in Denton will host the band (with openers Record Hop and Will E. Lee). Again, tix are $10 and available via Frontgate. Lastly, for the Dallasites who missed their headlining gig last November at Club Dada, they will be returning on Tuesday, April 28 to play at the Granada - not as a headliner, but as opener for New Jersey's The Gaslight Anthem. Tickets for that show are $13-$17 and are available online through the Granada's website. A Death in the Family is also opening.

Now that the Bastards have relocated to Austin, hopefully we will be graced by their presence this frequently from now often!

Fleetwood Mac at the AAC

Announced today - classic rock vets Fleetwood Mac will be hitting Dallas in the middle of the second leg of their "Unleashed" Greatest Hits North American Tour. Specifically, American Airlines Center will be hosting the band on Thursday, April 30. Unfortunately, the band will be without singer Christine McVie (who retired from the band in 1998), so don't expect to hear "Say You Love Me,""Dreams" or "You Make Loving Fun." Or maybe Stevie Nicks will sing those, I dunno. In any event, tickets run from $49.50-$149.50 and go on sale through Ticketmaster Monday January 26 at 10 AM. There are also various pre-sales starting this Saturday, January 17.

New Year, New Shows

Well, I had an enough shows added to the list for a proper update before New Year's but there weren't too many big names of merit an actual post it seemed. Then the flu knocked me on my ass for about a week and a ton of shows were announced and now there are plenty to substantiate an update. So here you go. Highlights as follows, but as always, many many more on the full list.
