List Update - February 19, 2009

Most of these have been on the list for a while, but I've been slammed at work and haven't been able to make a post. So let's get right to the highlights!
And that's not even mentioning all the tours that are stopping in Austin and completely skipping Dallas - Bruce Springsteen, Neko Case, Modest Mouse... I am looking in your direction.

Delicious CAKE at the Palladium

I'm about to make a list update, but this is a special post for a few friends of mine as I know they will be especially interested. CAKE (the band, not the food - although the food would be just as good if not better) will be playing at the Palladium on Thursday, April 30 as part of a short jaunt through Tejas and surrounding states. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday at 10 AM, but Ticketmaster is showing that tickets are currently are available in an "Internet Presale" which (interestingly) does not require a password. In any event, go get your delicious CAKE fix now!

Q: Are They Not Men? A: They Are Devo!

Being close to Austin certainly has its advantages at certain times of the year. In September, Dallas gets a lot of bands stopping through town on their way to and from Austin City Limits, and in March the same happens for South by Southwest. Usually for SXSW we just benefit from smaller bands, as the bigger artists hitting SXSW will just make special one-off appearances (whereas ACL is often in the midst of a summer tour). However, occasionally one of the big SXSW acts will also stop by Dallas and today we have just the announcement. New wave pioneers Devo - who will be headlining the BMI showcase Friday night of SXSW at Austin Music Hall - will be playing a tune-up show at the Palladium on Wednesday, March 18. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10 AM though Ticketmaster, with a presale starting a day earlier (also at 10 AM).

A full list of SXSW "spillover" acts is coming soon.

Bonnie 'Prince' Billy at the Granada

Tickets for this one just popped up on the Granada's website today even though there hasn't been a formal announcement yet. In any event, singer/songwriter Will Oldham - performing under his Bonnie 'Prince' Billy moniker - is going to be playing at the Granada on Saturday, June 6. Tickets are $15-$20 and are available online here or at the Granada box office. The new Bonnie 'Prince' Billy album, Beware, is out on Drag City on March17.

Franz Ferdinand at HOB!

Fresh off the release of their third album (the excellent Tonight: Franz Ferdinand), Scottish post-punk revivalists Franz Ferdinand will make a welcome return to Dallas this Spring. On Friday, April 24 the band will visit the House of Blues in the midst of a large US tour. No word yet on ticket price or on sale date but based on the info for the Austin date, it'll probably be next weekend (the 13th or 14th). I'll post more info as I get it.

I'm not going to lie, this show makes me very excited. Not only because Franz Ferdinand is one of my favorite current bands (who I have never seen), but also because it's at the House of Blues and not at the Palladium.

Update: Tickets are $26.50-$50 and go onsale Friday at 10 AM through Ticketmaster, although there are various presales going on now.

Flight of the Conchords at Nokia

As rumored in my last post, the New Zealand comedy folk duo and stars of the HBO show of the same name, Flight of the Conchords are indeed coming to Nokia Theatre in Grand Prairie on Tuesday, May 5. All tickets are $38.50 and go on sale through Ticketmaster on Friday, February 6 (although there is a presale going on now through Thursday). Opening is comedian Eugene Mirman.
